The days are long but the years are short.

Now that my youngest is four and 55 lbs of muscle and lingering baby chub, this old expression cannot be any truer for me. When you’re in the thick of the sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and anxiously awaiting every next milestone, it seems like the chaotic pace will never end. But yet, inevitably, one day you look up and your little bundle is a (mostly) self-reliant walking and talking human being.  Where does the time go?

It has been a few years since I’ve had the opportunity to photograph a newborn. What a joy it was to pick up where I left off.  Especially with Baby J, who was long awaited and then arrived in a rush. It seems impossible that she was welcomed into the world one month ago. Congrats, Barr Family! I can’t wait to watch this little girl grow alongside her awesome big sister!

Two years ago, I photographed my first ‘official’ newborn session for a three week old baby boy named Angus.  Now, he’s upgraded to big brother status to his newborn sister, Pearl.  It was such an exciting honor to photograph this lovely family again and their newest addition!  They came to see me in my studio and Angus spent time exploring with Dad while us ladies worked on getting Pearl nice and sleepy for her session.  The last few minutes were reserved to capture all the sibling love, of which there was plenty!  Angus totally dotes on his little sister and also gives her a bit of a hard time (see evidence below, ha!), just as a big bro should. Pearl’s nursery at home is bumble bee themed, which inspired the yellow honey bee images below.  Big congratulations, Tricia and Phil! She’s perfect! <3

This adorable little nugget had a schedule all her own.  Originally she was expected to arrive on Halloween, but alas as most babies have their own plans, she arrived a few weeks early.  After some unavoidable scheduling changes, ultimately her parents decided they’d rather wait until she was a little older to have the photo session done. In the end, it worked out well and she was worth the wait! At about two and a half months old, she was generous with the smiles and giggles, not to mention gave me some killer eye contact. Congratulations, Carrie and Joe! She’s absolutely beautiful.

This sweet little honey was originally supposed to be a last minute maternity session, but she decided she didn’t want to wait for her debut! She was a dream to photograph, her parents were super nice and fun (they fed me delicious cake!) and it turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous sunny day for my drive to Plymouth.  She also gave me the opportunity to use some fall leaves from my own yard to celebrate her Autumn arrival, which is special since it’s my fave season! Congratulations, Retsina and Reuben! She’s a doll.

Erica and I are both transplants to the East Coast from Michigan. We share a close mutual friend and over the years have visited each other on lots of different occasions, from our college party days to celebrating weddings and now welcoming babies! I was thrilled when she asked me to do her newborn photos.  Here are some of my favorites of her little man, complete with a head full of beautiful blonde hair!

A couple of weeks ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to provide a newborn session for my lovely colleague, Tricia, and her husband, Phil.  They recently welcomed a new baby boy into their family and he couldn’t be any sweeter!  Mama took a much deserved afternoon off to relax with her friends while Dad hung back and played the part of assistant extraordinaire for me.  Though we started the day with a wide awake and very alert little boy, it didn’t take long to get him nice and milk-drunk so that he could sleep away the rest of the session. 🙂  Couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the afternoon!

Congratulations again to the both of you, he’s perfect and I’m so glad I was able to capture these images for you!
